Strawberries in chocolate recipe

Preparation time: 30 minutes

Makes: 12 servings

Ingredients:

  • 24 large fresh strawberry with leaves (long stems will be a bonus but not required)
  • 2 Hershey chocolate bars (4.4. oz each) (I use 1 milk and one special Dark Hershey bar - but you can use only milk or only dark chocolates - depending if you like more milk chocolate or dark chocolate)

Preparation:

  1. Wash, drain, and dry  the strawberries.
  2. In a double boiler melt the chocolate bars. If you do not have a double boiler, just use a small sauce pan put into a slightly larger one filled half way with water. Put the saucepans on low heat and let the water simmer. Add small blocks of chocolate bars and  mix with a wooden spoon until chocolate is uniformly melted.
  3. Dip the strawberries one by one, using a circular motion, that ends in a swirl and inverting the strawberry upside down to seal the drip.
  4. Put on a cookie sheet (or large plate) covered with wax paper or aluminum foil. If you would like to preserve the perfect round shape, insert a skewer into the leaves end on the strawberry and let it cool upside down with the skewers in a large bowl.
  5. Let it cool for 5 minutes and then put it in the fridge to cool further (for about 45 minutes), such that the chocolate will harden. If you are in a hurry (I always am), you can put the strawberries in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes until the chocolate becomes hard. They will not freeze for this short time, but do not leave them longer.
  6. Serve on a nice serving plate and enjoy!
  7. Consume within 24 hours, as the strawberries spoil fast.
