Mini walnut horns - A Truly Gourmet Dessert

This is an absolutely delicious recipe, that was incredibly successful anytime I have made it. For every single party I have served this, I was asked for the recipe immediately. This recipe has been in my family for generations, and it is coming from my Grossmutter which was my grandma from my Austrian side of the family. The mini horns are simply melting in your mouth! I hope you will enjoy it too!

Mini walnut horns - A Gourmet Dessert Recipe

Preparation time: 45 minutes ( preparation: 15 minutes; baking: 20-30 minutes )

Makes: 24 servings

  • 9.5 ounces (270 g) all purpose flour
  • 7 ounces (200 g) butter
  • 3.5 ounces (100 g) grounded walnuts
  • 2.5 ounces (70 g ) vanilla sugar
  • confectioners sugar

  1. Mix the butter with the flour, sugar and grounded walnuts. Knead the dough.  The secret to a successful dough is to have the butter un-melted, although it does require a bit of work to mix it in.
  2. Take small dough pieces, roll between hands and form strings.
  3. Cut in small pieces and  bend ends forming small horns
  4. Put the mini horns on the non-stick baking tray.
  5. Preheat the oven and bake for about 15-20 minutes at 350 F (until become lightly ivory-golden).
  6. Remove the mini horns carefully from the baking tray (they tend to break easily) and roll them in confectioners' sugar while they are still hot.
