Meringues - light and airy


This famous french dessert is very easy to make, but requires some patience to get it right. The secret is to bake it very very slowly, at very low heat! Enjoy!




Meringues recipe


Cooking time: about 2 hours (preparation: 10 minutes; baking: about 2 hours)

  • Ingredients:
  • 1 egg white (from a large egg)
  • 2 ounces sugar
  •  few drops lemon juice


  1. Beat the egg white until it becomes a stiff foam.
  2. Add the sugar gradually and continue beating with the mixer.
  3. Grease a backing tray and sprinkle it with flour. Using a teaspoon form round shapes of foam and arrange them on the tray. Keep the forms a bit distanced from each other.
  4. Preheat the oven and bake at 200 F for about 2 - 2 1/2  hours.
  5. After the meringues are cool, remove them from the tray and arrange nicely on a serving plate.

As a version of this recipe, you may add chopped walnuts into the foam, for a more special dessert.
