APPLE STRUDEL

A truly gourmet dessert that is very easy to prepare! This is the original German/Austrian recipe as my grandmother used to make. Of course, she would make the puff pastries from scratch, but in the modern days who has so much time to cook?

You should absolutely try this recipe for apple strudel! It is delicious!

Recipe for Apple Strudel

Apple Strudel

Preparation time: 1 hour ( preparation: 10 minutes; baking: 45 minutes)

Makes: 6 servings

Ingredients:

  • 1 pack Puff Pastry sheets (I usually use Pepperidge FarmĀ® Puff Pastry sheets)
  • 6 big apples
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Preparation:

  1. Use the Puff Pastry sheets after thawing for 40 minutes at the room temperature (respect the preparation instruction on the packet).
  2. While waiting for the sheets to thaw, peel and grate the apples. Add cinnamon and 3 tablespoons sugar and mix together. Simmer on medium heat for 4-5 minutes.
  3. Cool the composition and add the flour.
  4. Unfold the puff pastry on a floured table and cut it in three equal sheets (there are dotted lines to separate the sheets). From a package of Pepperidge FarmĀ® Puff Pastry you can make three apple strudel bars.
  5. Put the apple composition mixture on top of the bottom sheet and cover it with a second sheet. Tuck  the ends.
  6. Beat the egg into a small bowl and brush the strudel on top.
  7. Grease a non-stick pan and sprinkle with flour. Put the apple strudel into the pan.
  8. Bake the apple strudel bar for 35-40 minutes in a preheated oven at 375 F.
  9. Sprinkle with powder sugar on top.
